As well as tackling local issues, Rotary has annual programmes
which the Rotary Club of Taupo supports to promote young people. These include:
Australia/New Zealand Matched Student
Exchange
The purpose of this programme is to provide an opportunity for
Australian and New Zealand students aged 13 1/2 - 16 to experience living and
attending school in each other's country for a school term.
This offers secondary school pupils aged 16 and 17 an
opportunity to live with a family overseas, attending school and learning
about another culture. In return, New Zealand families host incoming pupils.
Participants describe it as a life-changing experience.

Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA)
This is a residential seminar/camp for young adults aged 18 to
23, bringing together people who have shown leadership qualities. Full-on
activities include outdoor team building, discussions, meetings with
inspirational figures, debates and interaction over a period of one week.
Participants always include their Award selection in their resumes. Our club
sponsored 4 young adults on the 2002 programme, and 2 on the 2003
programme.
A residential weekend seminar for secondary school students
aged 14 to 17, similar to RYLA. It is aimed at self improvement and to broaden
social, academic and cultural horizons. It will assist young people in forming
their own values and moral standards through communication to the participants
a series of ideas, problems, and social experiences.
GENESIS National Science and Technology
Forum
This provides an opportunity for high-achieving secondary
school students to experience science and technology campuses in Auckland. It
is open to New Zealand students in Year 12 who will be returning to Year 13
and are planning to enter tertiary programmes in science and technology. It is
a two week residential programme.
