HISTORY

The world’s first service club, the Rotary club of Chicago, was formed by Paul Harris on 23 February 1905.

Paul Harris was an attorney who wished to capture in a professional club the same friendly spirit he had in the small towns of his youth.

The name Rotary derived from the early practise of rotating meetings among members’ offices.

By 1921, Rotary clubs has been formed on six continents and  Rotary International was formed a year later.

Rotary International recognises the value of diversity within individual clubs and encourages clubs to assess their own membership criteria, and to include a range of professions, gender, age and ethnicity.

Rotary today has 1.2 million members worldwide in more than 34,118 clubs in 200 countries

The Rotary Club of Morwell was formed on 18 December 1945 and has served the local community as well as contributed national and international projects since then.
