AVENUES OF SERVICE

Based on the Objects of Rotary, the Avenues of Service are Rotary’s philosophical cornerstone and the foundation on which club activity is based (galleries of photos from events are linked from each avenue)

These are

CLUB SERVICE  - Fellowship and ensuring effective functioning of the club -

VOCATIONAL SERVICE – Service to others through their vocations

COMMUNITY SERVICE – Projects and activities to improve community

CLUB SERVICE:

Focuses on strengthening fellowship and ensuring
effective functioning of the club

Director - 
Kathleen Kneebone

 

·         Maintain and enhance the fellowship experience of the club at our regular dinner meetings so members have an enjoyable experience each week

·         Provide high quality interesting and diverse programs at club meetings, including guest speakers, fun games nights, Rotary education and our own member’s talks

·         Maintain the high standard of communication between members, including weekly bulletins, email and other mediums

·         Maximize public relations opportunities through hands on projects and local media reports

·         Continue with the current membership development plan to obtain new members to continually reinvigorate the club

 

 

 

VOCATIONAL SERVICE

GALLERY

Encourage Rotarians to serve others through their vocations and to practice high ethical standards

 

Director -  Ann Vokes

 

·         Host our annual Pride of Workmanship Awards, which is a night in which the club recognises employees who have provided service to their customers to a high standard.  These nominations come from either the employers themselves, Rotarians or the general public

·         Vocational site visits are when the club either visits a local business to understand their operations, or a representative visits the club and addresses the members

·         Student Ethics debate is a new concept the club devised where, in conjunction with the Rotary Club of Moe, we both sponsor teams of debaters from local schools to come together and debate a topic to do with ethics.  Teachers and class mates attend the debate, along with both club’s members

·         Participate in other Rotary programs including “Shine on Awards” where people with disabilities who have made a major contribution to their communities are recognised

 

 

 

COMMUNITY SERVICE:

GALLERY

Covers the projects and activities the club undertakes to improve life in its community

 

Director - David McInnes

 

·         Expand and maintain public facilities at the Morwell Common Community Playground

·         Fundraise through the regular sausage sizzles at Bunnings to enable the club to undertake works and make donations to local and international projects

·         Host the annual Charity Golf Day at the Morwell Golf Club

·         Host the Australia Day Breakfast in conjunction with the Morwell RSL

·         Participate in ANZAC Day and Remembrance Day celebrations

·         Conduct working bees at Rotary Centenary House, a district Rotary project that provides low cost accommodation to patients  of the Latrobe Regional Hospital and their carers

·         Participate in the Bowel Scan project

·         Participate in the sales of Rotary Christmas cakes and puddings, Gippsland Annual Toy Run and the Japanese Cultural Day at Kurnai Hall Morwell

 

 

 

INTERNATIONAL SERVICE:

 
GALLERY

Encompasses actions taken to expand Rotary’s humanitarian reach around the globe and to promote world understanding and peace.

 

Director - Jen Rowley

 

·         Overseas disaster assistance of portable housing and clean drinking water through donations of Shelter Boxes and Aqua Boxes.  Countries assisted include Haita, Burma and Pakistan

·         Rotarians Against Malaria program where funds are raised to adopt villages overseas and provide life saving treated mosquito nets to help prevent the spread of malaria in remote and underprivileged areas of the world

·         Donations in Kind program where our club collects a wide variety mostly second hand  items, books, wheelchairs, medical equipment etc which is then sent overseas where needed

·         Host a Rotary Exchange Student and sponsor an outgoing student

·         Provide financial assistance to Interplast, a program where Australian medical personnel go to underprivileged countries and assist with plastic surgery procedures on mostly disfigured patients, in most cases changing

·         their lives dramatically

·         Rotary Australia World Community Service project involves our club supporting projects such as cataract surgery, wheelchairs for kids and literacy programs

·         Rotary’s continuing efforts to eradicate Polio from the earth is nearing completion with Bill Gates assisting to finance the activities.  How many services clubs can claim they have nearly eradicated a disease?

 

NEW GENERATIONS:

GALLERY

 

Assist youth and young adults through leadership development activities, service projects and exchange programs.

 

DIRECTOR -
Minol (Bluey) Stewart

 

·         Co-Host the annual RYLA Camp with the Rotary Club of Warragul. This is a weekend leadership camp for 18 to 28 year olds who are sponsored by employers and Rotary clubs in the district

·         Participate in the annual working bee at Portsea Camp where we help develop and maintain the infrastructure of the camp, plus we have a lot of fun and fellowship doing it!

·         Sponsor local primary school children to the summer camp at Portsea

·         Consider participating in the Rotary Model United Nations Assembly which is  a program where school students attend a weekend long program which models a United Nations assembly.  Students are given a country to study and represent for the weekend

·         Seek and sponsor nominations for the National Youth Science Forum and the Siemens Science Experience, both are for students studying the sciences and wishing to gain a greater understanding of the courses and jobs available

·         Participate in Rotary Youth Program of Enrichment which is open to year 10 students who have ability but need assistance.  The program is a weekend camp where students are exposed to motivational speakers and leadership training
