WINTER WOOLLIES!

With winter past us and our club in only its Provisional Status, we set out upon our first service project.  It was one which was inexpensive to run, but just amazingly important and effective – and extremely successful!

Winter Woollies was born as an ongoing project for the Rotary Club of Mont Albert & Surrey Hills with the inaugural collection taking place on the 9th & 10th October, 2004 – just prior to our club being chartered.   We were based at the Surrey Hills Neighbourhood Centre and held the collection in conjunction with the Surrey Hills Neighbourhood Centre Market on the Saturday and then independently on the Sunday.

We collected over 600 items of clothing and blankets – an amazing collection!

These items were all boxed and then collected by Eastern Emergency Relief Network (EERN) based in Mitcham and utilized for families in need in the eastern suburban region of Melbourne.

During the subsequent year, we were approached by EERN to collect blankets and young childrens' clothes – which we advertised and again received an amazing response from our local community.

October 2005 saw the project run for a second time – and it achieved an excellent result with around 500 items collected as families undertook their spring clean.

The club will again collect Winter Woollies in the 2006/07 year – if you would like to help out – keep an eye on the website for the date.

Thank you to everyone involved in the community for your wonderful assistance!
