Primary Schools Public Speaking Competition – 2005/2006
In August, 2005, we held our Inaugural Primary Schools Public Speaking Competition with a wonderful finale evening being held at `Our Holy Redeemer Hall’ in Mont Albert.
Our club initiated this project, which we understand is a first in District 9810, after two of our members saw three dynamic young speakers at the Rotary Club of Waimate on a visit to New Zealand.
The goal of our club was to initiate this project and involve all six Primary Schools within the boundaries of Mont Albert & Surrey Hills – being:
o Surrey Hills Primary
o Mont Albert Primary
o Our Holy Redeemer
o Our Lady’s Wattle Park
o Chatham Primary
o Camberwell Girls Grammar

Following extensive planning commencing in February, 2005, the club developed links with all the Primary Schools in the Mont Albert & Surrey Hills community.
Each of the schools held individual competitions within their school community encouraging all students at the Year 5 and 6 level to participate. Two finalists from each school attended and presented at the Final Judging Evening.
It was wonderful to see the high caliber of presentations and the MC and judges on the Evening from Toastmasters were high in their praise of all students.
The winners of the Inaugural Rotary Club of Mont Albert & Surrey Hills Primary Schools Public Speaking Competition were:
First Prize Vivienne from Camberwell Girls Grammar School
Second Prize Will from Mont Albert Primary School
Third Prize Nikki from Camberwell Girls Grammar School
President Leonie was delighted to present Camberwell Girls Grammar School with the Shield as holders of the RC MASH Primary Schools Speaking Competition.
