LINKING WITH INALA

In October, 2004, the club initiated its first project with Inala Aged Persons Hostel following the knitting of blankets by the residents at Inala.  The club's promotion of its Winter Woollies project promoted the initial interest for the Staff at Inala to contact our club to see if we could distribute the blankets to a worthy home.

As two of our members had visited northern India in recent times, it was suggested that we forward the beautiful hand crotcheted and knitted blankets to the Mother Teresa Home in Shillong, Megalaya, India.

Club members were keen to meet residents and hosted a fantastic Christmas afternoon tea with Christmas Cake and Mince Pies provided by the club and a talk on the Shillong area in India.

We were delighted to forward photographs back to the residents who were thrilled to see the blankets being presented by the President of the Rotary Club of Shillong.

We have subsequently teamed with Inala on two further occasions with blankets being forwarded to elderly village folk outside Shillong in India and to the area around Islamabad in Pakistan where the earthquake struck this year.

Recent knitting has resulted in a fantastic collection of knitted toys which will be forwarded to the needy also.  These were donated at the Club hosted Afternoon Tea for Easter this year with delightful Hot Cross Buns direct from our donor – Bread Street Bakery in Hamilton Street, Mont Albert.

The club is now providing wool for knitting as an ongoing project and donations of either wool or cash are always most welcome to assist this project – again a real WIN! WIN!
