President Greg’s Report:   The Week (May 13th) in Review

Thank you to all participants in what was a particularly constructive and worthwhile meeting on membership. The Membership Committee will be pursuing some of the strategies and suggestions including an extended separate meeting in order to fully flesh out some of ideas. Stay tuned.

Among the matters to be addressed by the Board over recent months, quite some time has been committed to exploring the merits of opening our own Opportunity Shop. Consideration has progressed to the point of establishing a committee to quietly track opportunities as they present themselves. Options have now started to present themselves and Club members will be kept informed.

Lesley is continuing to present options for social occasions for which we are all grateful. The latest, being for the play Fiddler on the Roof, should be excellent if the last play by the same group is anything to go by.

Malcolm has coordinated the distribution of bowel scan packs at most local Pharmacies. Whilst this is a project for the benefit of the community at large, I would encourage all members to collect a pack themselves. This must be done in the next week or so if you would like to have this “safety check” for the modest cost of $6.00.

President Greg

Report from Last Week (May 13th) by Roving Reporter Tony De Fazio

The Session commenced with incoming President Geoff Limmer alerting us to the fact that we need to consider a range of initiatives and efforts in not only maintaining but increasing club membership.

He outlined that on the charter night of the club there were 34 members and over the last 19 years it has been variable with the maximum club members reaching 48. Currently we are down to 32. All clubs are struggling with membership; however it is the responsibility of every Rotary club of Box Hill Central member to increase membership. The target set for next year is 40 members.

Lesley asked for support from every member to take a form and complete the details of possible future members, so that the club could officially approach them. She outlined the ‘selling’ points for club membership being the list of achievements and activities, operation cleft and fundraising equalling $1.3 over the last 3 years and 4,200 people’s lives changed for the better.

There were varying views put forward and discussed including the following:

·         Arranging interest breakfasts and inviting people along

·         Develop a marketing plan with clear messages and activities

·         Subscriptions, level of fundraising and other associated costs may be a deterrent

·         What are the points of difference making the club attractive to join

·         Lets learn from other volunteer organisations

·         Be more strategic and look at other options including organisational membership rather than just individual membership

AGREED ACTION:

·         A separate night meeting to be arranged , for club members to brainstorm and develop a wide range of ideas and initiatives which will lead to increased membership and the retention of present club members.

President Elect Geoff Limmer leads the Club in pursuing new approaches to building club membership.

.

Lesley Bell talked about practical ways to bring new members on board

From Lesley Bell

Hi Members

Please find below notification of the next show from the local theatrical group, the Babirra Players

Given the wide range of performance dates, may I suggest that interested Club members & their friends make their bookings to see ‘Fiddler on the Roof’ directly through Geoff Swain of the Rotary Club of Box Hill.  Apart being a great show, there is always the added benefit of a bag of Cadbury chocolates with each ticket purchased!  Cheers,

A Joint "Whitehorse Rotary Clubs"  Fund Raiser

Following the success of the "Calamity Jane" joint activity:-
