President Greg’s Report for Week in Review, ending March 4th, 2009:
May
I encourage financial support for last week’s guest speaker Gonny. Her
extraordinary bike ride, inspired by being personally touched by issues of
mental health, and with proceeds to go to Australian Rotary Health Research,
is well worth our support. Consider what we don’t have to do, by
comparison, and a small donation becomes that little bit easier.
Fountains
Restaurant at Box Hill TAFE have provided us with their updated timetable and
costs for this calendar year. As a facility with which we have a long
association, may I refer members to the details by visiting http://www.bhtafe.edu.au/fountains
The quality is high, costs modest and support for the training available to
the hospitality students very much appreciated by the College.
I
note with some gratitude the official passing of this year’s high risk
bushfire period, and not without some correlation, some very welcome rain
over this past week. May the rain continue.
President
Greg
Report from Last Week’s Meeting (Mar 4th) by Roving Reporter
Sgt
Ian called the meeting to order and welcomed President Greg to the
Microphone.
Lesley
Bell called for final registrations for those intending to go to the Gala
Police Band Concert.
She
was also co-ordinating bookings for the visit to the County Court. Interested
persons should advise either Lesley or Bernie Millane.
Malcolm Chiverton advised that the
Whitehorse Rotaract Club was conducting a Trivia Night at Box Hill TAFE on 20
March at a cost of $25 per head. Those interested should contact Malcolm
ASAP.
Garry
Randall called for assistance with Prizes for the Police Band Concert.
Tony
Stokes called for prizes for the Charity Golf Day
Our Guest Speaker was Gonny Rundell who
spoke about the Great Australian Bike Ride of which she would be a participant.
The
ride will raise funds for Australian Rotary Health Foundation.
The
riders will ride 6 days per week averaging 106 kilometres each day,
commencing from Mornington on 21 March and concluding in Melbourne on 10 October 2009.
Gonny
has personally pledged to raise $40000 for the event.
The
ride will start at Mornington and travel to Tasmania, back to Melbourne, then
up the East Coast to Cairns, then west to Tenant Creek, North to Darwin and
down the west coast, then east to Adelaide and back to Melbourne.
Gonny
will personally ride to promote Mental Health Awareness.
In
closing the meeting President Greg expressed his appreciation and admiration
to Gonny for her inspiring commitment to the Bike Ride, Mental Health
Awareness and the ARHF.

Gonny Rundell inspired us all – particularly those of
us who struggle to ride 5 km’s

Hi
Bruce Hope
you are all fit & well up there. Thanks for the regular
newsletters I do appreciate keeping up with "happenings"
Thought
you might be interested to know that I am now an official "friend
of Rotary" at the Hastings Club. Have not rejoined as a full member but love
helping out at the various events.
This
is a great idea & it certainly enables one to "keep in
touch" & be useful.
