This week’s meeting Wednesday 10th June 2009 http://www.rotaryboxhillcentral.org.au
President Greg’s
Report: The Week (June 3) in Review The Week in Review by
President Greg After welcoming Ross
Mitchell as our newest member last meeting, we can start to look forward over
coming weeks to continuing the renewal of our membership base. Geoff and
Lesley are planning a brainstorming session to build on the views and
thoughts elicited from our recent Club meeting on the topic. The planned
Membership Information Breakfast has been delayed pending the outcome of this
special club meeting. Over the course of this
next week, the final Board meeting and Cluster Presidents meeting will take
place. As the transition commences to a new team, Geoff is also making
preparations for a Club Strategy meeting in July to set the tone and
direction for his Presidential year. The next 6-8 weeks promises to be an
exciting time for the Club as we continue to evolve and grow from our strong
core of committed members. It remains a pleasure to be a participant in our
Club’s development. President Greg Report from Last Week (June 3) by Roving Reporter Brian Martin:
Our guest speaker,
David Pollock, outlined his experiences as a young police officer in the NT
in the 1960’s and 70’s. He highlighted a bygone era where the local policeman
not only kept the peace but also ran the local telephone exchange, post
office and every other official duty as an officer of the federal government. At the time there were only
69 police officers in the entire Northern Territory which has an area
of 500,00 square kms. David was part of an intake
of 17 recruits who took part in an 8 week training program. He was sent to
Alice Springs 15 months after graduating and spent most of his time in the
force manning single police stations in a variety of locations throughout the
Northern Territory. David gave us a graphic
insight into the duties of a NT policeman in the 1960,s and 70’s including
clearing up after remote plane crashes and local car accidents. David later
served as a Member of Parliament the NT House of Assembly until 1978. He is the author of the
book “Outback in Uniform”. Attendance Report for

Greg Cooper A Message From President
Elect Geoff Limmer: Your new Board will be meeting early in July to
develop plans for the coming Rotary Year. Several Members have spoken to me
about some ideas that they would like our Club to consider. Our Club is desperate for Revenue Raising
Projects; we hope to find a suitable site to establish an Opportunity Shop in
the short term. The more Revenue we generate means the greater support we can
put into Programs. Any other ideas for Revenue Raising Opportunities
would be most welcome. In the meantime don’t forget that there is a
wealth of information on the RI Website. There are literally hundreds of great, well proven
Programs already being supported by Rotary Clubs around the world that we are
able to access or join. We don’t have to reinvent the wheel! And of course we should not forget our Rural
Support Program headed up by PP Tony Stokes. Many businesses have closed. In the area from
Shepparton to Wangaratta and across to Beechworth, Myrtleford and Benalla you
see thousand of hectares of burnt trees many of which will never recover. As PP Tony Stokes has often said, we have a “human
hell” on our doorstep and sadly some people are tending to feel that the
problem has abated. I can assure all that the problem is as bad now as
ever, and our Country Friends need our support in a variety of ways. Future Meetings:
