President Greg’s
Report: The Week (June 24th) in
Review
As
of the time of writing this final Bulletin, the final pieces are being put
into place for our Changeover evening and I’m just about to head off to the
Changeover for the District Governor.
Feather
dusters are about to abound. Thank you to all members for your strong support
over the year. It’s been fun. Our transition to a modern Club will continue
under Geoff and I’m quite confident it will be a year of growth and
development.
See
you all Wednesday.
President
Greg
There is much
excitement building for the Club’s big event of the year - this Wednesday
Night at the Box Hill RSL, 36
Nelson Rd Box Hill.

Report from Last Week
(June 24th) by Roving Reporter Geoff Limmer
Vice President Ian Port presided over our
meeting in the absence of President Greg.
Lesley
Bell announced that the second session of Portraits and Pizzas at Bendigo would take
place this coming Sunday 28 June 2009.
Sergeant
Ralston relieved our pockets of small change in a question and answer
segment.
Our
Guest Speaker was Ian Black, Manager Mechantronics Department of Swinburne Institute
of Technology.
Ian
spoke on the design and manufacture of a Hi Rail modification to suit a
Nissan Navarra Four Wheel Drive Vehicle for the Puffing Billy Railway.
The
HI Rail vehicle is driven along the track each day prior to any trains, to
conduct a visual inspection of the track and ensure that there are no
objects, foreign material or damage to the track and bridgework.
One
of the challenges of the exercise was the limited space available within the
front suspension area of the Nissan Navarra 4 Wheel Drive to mount the
hydraulic rams and associated apparatus necessary to enable the vehicle to be
lifted high enough to allow the Railway type wheels to swing into position
and allow for a friction drive off the road wheels of the Nissan Navarra.

Ian Black explains the complexity of building the
Puffing Billy Track Testing Vehicle

The Club’s resident Steam Train enthusiasts, Rob Collier and Ian Port.

From the Editor:
Thanks for the opportunity to be your Bulletin
Editor over this 08 09 Year, I’ve appreciated the notes and emails from
members and our many ‘Friends of the Club”.
Thanks to Geoff Limmer
and Brian Martin for your technical support and your work in getting the
Bulletin up on the web each week. Thanks to Club members for your patience
and forgiveness when things have not been quite right.
I wish Vici Funnell every success as she takes
on the Bulletin editor’s task in the year ahead. Thanks to both Greg Cooper and Geoff Limmer for an excellent year as President
and President Elect and for your support to me. Congratulations to new President Geoff Limmer and his team as you take up your
important new responsibilities. The year ahead looks good, but not without
its challenges, growing the membership and continuing to support and build
the Operation Cleft Program I’m sure are keys.
Thanks to all,
Bruce, signing off
