Rotary was established on 23rd February 1905 in Chicago when Paul Harris, a lawyer, met with three friends, to discuss the idea of starting a men’s club in order to enlarge their circle of friends and business acquaintances. Paul Harris was the first President of Rotary International in 1922.

 

A Paul Harris Fellowship is awarded "in appreciation of tangible and significant assistance given for the furtherance of better understanding and friendly relations among peoples of the world."
