Sydney CBD Rotary club is proud of being part of the 2007-2013 Meeting Frequency Pilot Program.
The Rotary Club of Sydney CBD is a relatively young Club in the wider Rotary world, receiving its Charter in July 1996. We are regarded as being a very progressive mixed gender club with approximately 50 members, average age 46 years. Rotarians emanate from a diverse range of backgrounds and are considered to be leaders in their various vocations. Our members all hold very responsible positions in the upper echelon of business and the professions in Sydney’s Central Business District and surrounding area.
We have three honorary members; Justice Michael Kirby AC., a former Judge of the High Court of Australia, The Hon. Linda Burney MP, a Minister in the NSW Government (and first Indigenous Australian to be elected into NSW Parliament) and Mr Chris Joannou, Bass Guitarist with the popular Band “ Silverchair”.
Chris is also Patron of “Nathans Bequest” a Committee established by the Rotary Club of Sydney CBD, partnered by The Australian Rotary Health Research Fund. The Nathan’s Bequest Committee aims to provide funds provide a PhD Scholarship Investigating Mental Health to qualified people with an interest in studying certain areas of depression. The outcome will be to assist young men and women who are tempted by suicide to understand that they have other options.
We were recently chosen by Rotary International to run a pilot scheme for 6 years as a New Model - Meeting Frequency program – whereby we meet twice monthly instead of weekly in an endeavour to make Rotary more relevant in the 21st Century.
This gives an idea of the “new face and attitude” of The Rotary Club of Sydney CBD.
We do not pay “lip service” to any of these matters! We really are “new age “Rotary!
Unlike other Clubs we meet only twice per month – 1st and 3rd Mondays. Our meetings take the form of a Dinner meeting from 6pm – 8.30pm where we conduct items of Rotary business and attract excellent Guest Speakers to address the Club on current and relevant matters.
