Experience Orange! Expo -
showcasing recreational, hobby, sport and special interest
groups.
27
February 2011 at the PCYC, Seymour Street, Orange
The
Experience Orange! Expo is planned
to be a community based event. The Expo will provide an opportunity for hobby
groups, local clubs and associations, and possibly some businesses, to present
to the public their particular recreational, sport, hobby, interest group or
support network, and to inform the community of the many activities available
in Orange. Such an Expo would provide the community with information about all
these groups and encourage participation. Increased participation helps to
build strong and healthy communities.
The
purpose of the Expo is to introduce Orange residents,
including those new and recently arrived, to the wide array of leisure
activities that are available in our area.
Currently, there does not appear
to be much opportunity for such groups to market themselves and attract new
participants. RCOD has identified at
least 150 groups in Orange. Each group that wishes to participate in the Expo will choose either
a 3mx3m space inside the PCYC
or an opportunity to present their activities outside (weather
permitting). A nominal charge will be
made to cover costs.
The
Rotary Club of Orange Daybreak organised the very successful Central West Garden and Outdoor Expo
for 5 years from 1999 to 2003. This
was followed by the club organising the popular Feathers, Fur and Fun Expo for 4 years from 2005-2008.
The
intention is not to make a profit but any excess funds that are raised will be
distributed between the PCYC and RCOD
community projects.
