Our Projects
Apart from getting together once a week
to talk and network with other Rotarians, Burwood Rotary
club and indeed all Rotary clubs are continually planning
and executing projects to assist our communities.
These projects are classified into four main streams.
Fellowship projects
promote communication and good will between club members.
They provide opportunities for Rotarians, their families
and friends to get together and have a good time.
Examples include holding BBQ's, Trivia Nights, Car Rallies,
Race Meetings and other such activities.
These are projects
which assist and enhance the local community.
Examples of these is one of our current 2004 projects
to assist the local Burwood Council in providing a sun
shade for the children's playground in Burwood Park.
There are also a wide category of projects here which
raise funds for such projects such as our Community
Chest raffle, assisting with the Burwood Festival and
annual Fashion parade. Running these sorts of
events increase the range of activities occurring in
Burwood and help create a more interesting environment
in our local community.
For many of our
members, reaching out to under-privileged international
communities is reason enough for them to be a Rotarian.
In recent times we have completed water quality projects
and built a school in Binxian (China). Projects
like these obtain outcomes far beyond the results that
can be achieved in Australia with the same amount of
funds. It took a relatively small sum of money
to build a school in such a poor area, but the benefits
will be realised by many Chinese people far into the
future.
