Work experience - kids from Bourke

2007 kids from Bourke.

This project proved remarkably successful with all youngsters fulfilling their work experience positions very well. Janes Sheehand who was placed with the Penrith Star, actually had an article printed in this paper. (click for the article)

Benny (our youth exchange student) and Mattheus (the Springwood Youth Exchange student) along with Geoff Hawken from our club, went to Courkey on the bus - a long but worthwhile journey.

Sponsorshisp for the travel costs is always sought and anyone who can help in this regard would be warmly welcomed.

We look forward to Bourke work exchange students in 2008

Lower Blue hosted and placedc 6 or 7 students.
We then investigated some workplace opportunities. Here is the present position.

2.Kerakargara Whewell; journalist, placement with RDU

6.James Sheehan; journalism, possible placement with Blue Mountains Gazette (Bob, have you asked Mike Ticehurst at this stage?)

18.Kahalank Archer; fitness instructor, placed with Pilates Studio Emu Plains - there is a condition here in that the student must be well presented with no visible tatoos, nose, lip or eye brow rings.  Needs black track pants or tights will be provided with Tee Shirt.  Work will involve general duties, cleaning as well as class participation.  From what Suzie has described it should be a great week. If Kahalank does not fit this description then we need to make alternative arrangments.

1.Kaitlynn Kavanagh; teaching infants at Mt Riverview Public School

11.Lisa Sutton; hair dresser and 14.Bridget Moore; hairdresser can be placed in local hairdressing salons.

The students will arrive Sat. evening 15th Sept & depart early Mon 24th Sept.

The job placements were the first priority and I am now seeking confirmation for billets. I had several hands go up when I raised it at the meeting so please get back to me soon if you are able to help.

Billetting means providing lodging and a temporary home for the week, bringing them to Rotary on 18th Sept, and sometimes taking them to or arranging for their transport to their work placement.

Thank you for your assistance in this worthwhile and reasonably long-running project to support our youth.
