Police Officer of the Year Award

Sponsorship Request

Background

The Rotary Club of Blacktown City initiated the Police Officer of the Year Award in 1999 to acknowledge the service provided by Officers from the Blacktown Local Area Command.

 Aims and Objectives

The Award acknowledges outstanding acts of courtesy, kindness, understanding, compassion, courage or devotion to duty provided to the local community during the previous calendar year by Officers of the NSW Police serving the community in the Blacktown Local Area Command.

 Community interaction and involvement

Members of the local community can nominate Officers for the Award and we also accept internal nominations from Duty Officers that have been endorsed by the LAC Executive Team.

Any community member who has written to the Blacktown Local Area Command during the course of the calendar year is contacted by the LAC and encouraged to nominate the Officer/s involved for the Award.

 Procedures

Nomination forms are printed and distributed to shops and businesses within the area serviced by the Blacktown Local Area Command.  They are available from the Blacktown and Seven Hills Police Stations, Westpoint, the Blacktown City Council and the Blacktown Sun.

The Award is launched at the Westpoint Shopping Centre on a Thursday afternoon in late January with nominations returned to the Rotary Club or lodged in the nomination box in Westpoint.

A panel of judges, comprising a representative from Westpoint, the current President of the Rotary Club, a female representative from the local paper supporting the Award (Blacktown Sun) and the Community Relations Manager from Blacktown City Council, reviews the nominations and selects the Award recipient.

The NSW Police is not represented on the judging panel so as to maintain impartiality however input by the Superintendent’s Executive Officer (BLAC) can be requested by the panel if additional information is required.
