Club
Projects
Blackheath Rotary Club is a small club that has a strong local community
orientation with a focus on youth, yet does look also to the broader stage.
"The Bun Wagon" The Club is well known for its catering trailer,
affectionately known as "The Bun Wagon". This is a self-contained
catering unit that can serve hot and cold food and drinks and is staffed by Blackheath Rotarians.
Some of
these projects are to be noticed when visiting Blackheath such as

the Tourist Notice Board,

and not to be forgotten, the
ever popular Wood Raffles that raise much needed finances for the three
local Public Schools encompassing Blackheath, Mt.Victoria and Megalong Valley.

Some
other achievements of the club are:
A few
years ago disastrous Bush Fires saw the Bun Wagon doing a double shift
supplying hot meals for the weary Bush Fire Fighters at Sutton Park,
Blackheath. It is a regular part of the annual Rhododendron Festival and does
very brisk business. A highlight of 2010 was catering for the wonderful pre-Australia
Day Dawn Breakfast, Blue Mountains Dawn, a national event this year held at
beautiful Evans Lookout Blackheath.
Youth Over the past few year's the club has
actively engaged in Rypen, RYLA and RYDA activities and experiences.
The Club’s support for MUNA (Model United
Nations), debating and Science Summer Schools has been of great benefit to local young people.Local schools receive assistance for library supplies, prizes and bursaries.
The
club has consistently supported the police and the community at “Blue Light”
youth activities and film nights.
Vocational Service Awards
Each year, Rotarians from Blackheath award several Pride of
Workmanship Awards, under the Vocational Service banner, to local
business people.
Community
Another
'milestone' in the Club's history has been the re-publishing of the
"History of Blackheath", a sought after publication, now re-written
and updated. Sales are regular in Upper Blue Mountains bookshops.
