| RI and Goodwill renew cooperative relationship |
Rotary International and Goodwill Industries International have renewed their alliance to help thousands of people around the world find and keep good jobs. This cooperative relationship provides a way for RI and Goodwill to pursue common objectives related to jobs and training, especially for people with disabilities and others facing barriers to employment. Each Rotary club and district can collaborate with Goodwill on a project that meets the needs of the community. Find your local Goodwill, and set up a meeting to discuss joint project opportunities. For project ideas and additional information, download the fact sheet. |

Rotary Club of Reutlingen-Tübingen-Süd, Germany (District 1830)
To help young people with social development disabilities improve their chances of future employment, the Rotary Club of Reutlingen-Tübingen-Süd supported two trade schools, allowing students to hone their social and technical skills. The club arranged training courses that used activities such as role playing to teach students how to apply for apprenticeships and jobs. Extracurricular programs were organized to promote team-building, social skills, and self-confidence. The effort is helping youth complete their education and find employment after graduation.
The club members are using their business connections and personal experience to assist in the long-term project. They not only are leading the special trainings but also are helping to secure job placements for the students. The response from students and teachers has been positive, and the activities are a welcome supplement to the school's curriculum.
The Reutlingen-Tübingen-Süd club received the 2008-09 RI Significant Achievement Award in recognition of this project. |
| Rotary club helps local businesses support corporate social responsibility |
The Rotary Club of Knights-Pendragon, in Edenvale, South Africa, has partnered with a local human resources firm to support corporate social responsibility among community businesses. The firm is promoting the club's ongoing humanitarian service projects to companies that want to achieve or maintain their placement in the Socially Responsible Investment (SRI) Index, which was recently launched on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange. Businesses can support the club's projects to help their communities and accrue points that will contribute to their official status on the index. Learn more. |
