Welcome to the November edition of the Vocational Service Update, designed to keep you informed about the latest developments with vocational service worldwide and provide useful information and resources to enhance your Rotary club and district vocational service projects. Comments and suggestions for future issues are welcome at vocationalservice@rotary.org. |
| Vocational Rotary Fellowships |
|
Vocational fellowships encompass a range of professions and serve to unite Rotarians all over the globe with a shared professional interest. They provide exciting opportunities for Rotarian fellowship and Vocational Service. Among the 66 current Rotary Fellowships are vocational fellowships for accountants, editors and publishers, lawyers, military personnel, physicians, police and law enforcement personnel, and a variety of other professions.
These Rotary fellowships are an excellent resource for your club and district vocational service efforts. Many have experience conducting workshops and demonstrations about their professions, while others can provide vocational training, aid for health clinics, and support for disaster relief and recovery efforts.
Learn more about fellowship opportunities on the Rotary Fellowships Web page. |
| Apply for a Significant Achievement Award |
The Significant Achievement Award recognizes Rotary clubs for their efforts to address critical needs in their communities and is a wonderful opportunity to showcase vocational service projects in your district. Award-winning projects have included a variety of vocational service activities, such as sponsoring a high school career day, hosting an ethics forum for local businesses, and promoting Four-Way Test essay contests in schools.
Each district submits one club project for consideration by the RI Significant Achievement Award Selection Committee. To learn more about application procedures and deadlines, Rotary clubs should consult with their district governors and visit the RI Awards Web page. |
| Rotary clubs host Open World delegations |
Over the last 10 years, Rotary clubs across the United States have hosted over 2,500 political and civic leaders from Russia, Ukraine, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan through the Open World Program. Funded by the Open World Leadership Center at the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C., this program aims to forge bonds of friendship and promote international understanding by opening up new avenues of dialogue between leaders in the United States and Eurasia.
Program participants learn about accountable governance, rule of law, social issues, and the development of nongovernmental organizations. Often, host Rotary clubs select additional topics connected to the vocational interests of participants and plan activities related to the theme.
Learn how your club can participate in this program on the Open World Web page |
