Rotarians focus on the family of Rotary in December

Every December, Rotarians around the world celebrate Family Month. This year, many clubs are working with their district resource group chairs to plan projects and activities that focus on the family of Rotary, one of RI President Bill Boyd’s emphases. Here are some ideas for how your club can focus on the family of Rotary this December:

·        Plan a Rotary Friendship Exchange with a club in another region or country.

·        Invite family members of Rotarians to speak about their vocations or participate in a club project or meeting.

·        Celebrate World Interact Week (30 October–5 November).

·        Invite Interactors and Rotaractors to speak about their service projects at your club’s meetings.

·        Plan a special event or celebration for visiting Rotary Youth Exchange students and their host families.

·        Host a Group Study Exchange team.

·        Begin a family literacy or vocational training project.

·        Organize a Rotary Community Corps.

·        Visit the 2006-07 Family of Rotary Resource Group Web page.

One club’s Vocational Service Month celebration

On October 8, the Rotary Club of Kalibo in the Philippines marked Vocational Service Month with an evening celebration to recognize Rotarian Toedorico Tumbocon Haresco Jr.’s contributions to the region’s economic development. The club honored Haresco with the first-ever International Business Leadership Award, developed by the club to honor significant social contributions by business leaders in the community. Haresco also received the Golden Press Award for exemplary business leadership from the Aklan Press Club. The event also celebrated the Kalibo club’s many other community and vocational service contributions over the last year, including its Voice of Youth Impromptu Speech Contest, hosting of U.S. Peace Corps Volunteers, Interact club sponsorship, and participation in International Literacy Day

Exhibit your club’s service project at the 2007 RI Convention

Does your club have an exceptional service project to share with other Rotarians at the 2007 RI Convention in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA? Applications for booths are now available to Rotary clubs and districts that would like to exhibit their service projects at the 2007 RI Convention. The application deadline for clubs and districts is 9 February.
