The School of St
Jude 10 March 2010
I wanted to inform our St Jude’s supporters about some sad news we’ve been dealing with over the past week. My father-in-law, Mr Daniel Sisia, passed away last week. The funeral, which I made a mad dash home from Australia to attend, was held on Saturday 6th of March. His passing has greatly affected not only the family but the entire community. Babu, as he is known, was instrumental in the development of St Jude’s, having encouraged me to start the school and kindly donating the first piece of land. I am so thankful to have many amazing staff at St Jude’s who consistently go above and beyond their role at the school. Saturday’s service came together brilliantly, despite heavy rain, because of St Jude’s staff who took charge of the preparations arranging seating, providing decorations, cooking food and directing traffic. I know Bibi, my mother-in-law, and the rest of the Sisia family are extremely grateful. I am also thankful for the friends in Australia who made sure I was able to return to Tanzania for this important occasion. I am now heading back to resume my tour. As soon as I touch down I will be speaking at International Women’s Day events at Parliament House in NSW followed by several important regional events. Check the website for my itinerary; I look forward to seeing you all there! If you will not have an opportunity to take part in this tour by attending or organising a local event then please consider contributing to our 2010 Student Appeal. The sale of these appeal items, ranging from bricks and mortar to chairs, computers and school lunches will ensure that further building can take place at St Jude’s so in 2011 we can enroll a further 150 plus students! This month I have a special edition newsletter that I have put together to pay tribute to all the wonderful staff at St Jude’s. As I am approaching the middle of my current Australian tour, I think this is a good time for you to meet a few of the people who keep St Jude’s running smoothly while I am away. Click here to enjoy their stories.
Thanking you, as always, for your support.
