In
2008 our oldest students reached the end of primary
school when they completed their Std 7 examinations.
In Tanzania, these are six grueling papers set by
the Tanzanian Ministry of Education in English,
Maths, Science, Social Studies, Kiswahili and
Religion.
We
have just received the results and they have done
extremely well! We are so proud of them and their
teachers and we know you will be too!
Approximately 1,000,000 students from around 14,000
schools in the country sat these exams. All our
students were ranked in the top 10% of the country
with three of our students being ranked in the top
150 positions.
We
are especially proud of Alex Elifas who was ranked
28 out of approximately 1,000,000 students and of
Esuvat Ojungu and Elizabeth Lekind for their
rankings of 90 and 145 respectively.
It
is amazing to think that our relatively young school
was competing with the long-established
international schools whose students come from
wealthy backgrounds and international families AND
CAME 23RD OUT OF AROUND 14,000 SCHOOLS!
These results indicate that we are certainly
heading in the right direction to fulfilling our
mission to fight poverty through education!
A
big thank you must go to the Academic Master, Mr
Nestory, all our academic Heads of Departments and
all the support staff who have worked so hard over
the last seven years to get these students to this
milestone in their lives.
But the HUGE thank you really goes to all of you
because without your support these great results
wouldn’t have been possible – it’s a proud moment
for the whole global team. You are giving so many
children the chance to have an education which will
help them drastically change their previously
hopeless futures to lives filled with choices,
optimism and fulfilled dreams.
It
looks like 2009 is off to a great start and with
your help, I’m sure it will continue! Everyone here
at St Jude’s wishes you all a happy, healthy and
successful 2009 – it could be a tough year but we
have proven that with a huge team effort we
can make
changes in a small part of the world.
Best wishes,
Gemma
