Message received from Michael on 25 May 2010:

Thank you for your kind hospitality you provided during our 1000km Ride4kidz bike ride that Greg and I completed recently from the Gold Coast in Queensland  to The Blue Mountains in NSW. We wanted to finish on a high and to be met my students at Blaxland High then to be greeted by friends and family was an excellent finale to a long and arduous ride.  Lower Blue Mountains Rotary Club also provided a wonderful  reception.

We visited such horrible places like the Gold Coast,  Byron Bay, Goonellaba,  Grafton,

Coffs Harbour,  Urunga,  Macksville,  Kempsey,  Port Macquarie, Taree, Wingham,  Forster Tuncurry,  Nelson Bay , Belmont ,  Wallsend,  The Entrance,  Gosford,   Galston and then home. Overall  we rode  1000 kms and did a total of only 12 km on the Pacific Hwy.

To stay off the trucking trek we rode through  such scenic places as Grassy Head , Scotts Head Rd, Crowdy Bay,  Crescent Head and caught  ferries at Port Macquarie,  Mungo Brush , Tea Gardens  and  Stockton.

We were in contact and spoke at Grafton ,Nelsons Bay and Wingham Schools and 12 Rotary clubs.

So far we have raised almost $20K in order to build Mando High School in Goroka in the Eastern Highlands of PNG.  Classrooms and library will be constructed in an area which has never had a High School before.  Resources and funds will also be provided for disabled students  eg  for students  who require cataract surgery and those who are hearing impaired. Our goal however is to raise $40k before construction can be complete and true support for the disabled can occur.

The fund raising work must continue and we will be involving local schools like Blaxland, St Dominics College, St Marys Senior, and Penrith High Schools to lend support.

If at all possible your club can lend further support and provide financial assistance to our cause we would be immeasurably grateful. The Rawcs project has already been successful  in constructing Mando Primary school and now we need to complete the project. Please check out our website as it details ride photos and project information  http://www.ride4kidz.com.au/

We believe that true support for our neighbours is through education in providing them with a base to direct and manage their own future.

Thank you once again for your hospitality  and hoping we can meet up with you again in the not too distant future.

Cheers Michael and Greg Harriden
