Rotary in the news

Past District Governor Roz Cooper, a member of the Rotary Club of Metropolitan Honolulu, Hawaii, USA, was recently featured in a local news article announcing her participation in this week's Council on Legislation. The story not only focuses on her role and the Council's history but also highlights her contributions to Rotary and provides a link to her club's website. This is a great example of how a reader-submitted piece is an effective marketing tool for Rotary.  Read the full story.

Publicize the Kick Polio Out of Africa campaign

Kick Polio Out of Africa, a public awareness campaign launched by Rotary's Reach Out to Africa Ad Hoc Executive Committee, is uniting efforts to End Polio Now on the continent. A soccer ball signed by Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu started in South Africa and is now traveling through 22 polio-affected countries. The ball will have numerous adventures in Africa en route to its final destination, the RI Convention in Montréal, Québec, Canada.

To learn how this story is traveling electronically, take a look at Rotary's social media press release, hosted by PitchEngine, a platform that allows users to easily share information with journalists, bloggers, and other influential people around the world. Consider sharing this release through one of your social networking accounts, and follow the ball's journey on the Kick Polio Out of Africa blog. Have another idea for promoting this campaign? Promote Rotary's commitment to End Polio Now

Occasionally, Rotary is not mentioned in news stories focusing on polio. When this happens, it is vital for the 1.2 million Rotary club members to be proactive and communicate their concerns directly and effectively to the media. To assist in this effort, use Rotary's PolioPlus Headliner Kit, which contains a sample opinion piece, letter to the editor, and several press releases that can be customized to reflect your local involvement in Rotary's PolioPlus program. There is also a variety of polio-related Humanity in Motion public service announcements (PSAs) to help with additional public outreach. Watch and share a video of Bill Gates, who directly addresses Rotarians and other supporters of the End Polio Now campaign.

Promote Regional versions of Humanity in Motion available in Arabic

Arabic versions of Humanity in Motion PSAs are now available for clubs to download and use in their area, thanks to the support of Rotarian Michel Jazzar, RI representative to the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia. Watch the first video PSA in Arabic on YouTube. Arabic versions of some Rotary International publications are also available online.

Did you know that Rotary PR Tips reaches more than 6,000 people in 115 countries from Afghanistan to Zimbabwe? It's a great opportunity to learn how the media works and how other cultures promote their projects. What PR tip would you share with readers? Send it to pr@rotary.org.
