Last month nine scholars arrived in Brisbane from seven countries to commence their Masters in Peace and Conflict Resolution as Rotary World Peace Fellows.

They were met at the airport and assisted to find accommodation by their Rotarian counsellors and all are now settled and enjoying Brisbane’s lifestyle.

Following a week of orientation they began studies at the University of Queensland on March 2.

The Rotary Peace Fellowship, which used to be two years long, is now 18 months and these Fellows will complete their degree in mid-2010.

In November they will travel to undertake their Applied Field Experience, which is usually for about three months.

Soon the new Fellows, together with the Class VI Fellows, will leave for a weekend retreat at Burleigh Heads at the Gold Coast.  This initiative will allow the two classes of Fellows to bond; get to know one another and to share ideas and experiences.

The 10 Class VI Peace Fellows, who complete their degrees in mid-2009,  will all present at the annual seminar to be held at the University of Queensland on May 23.

This is a wonderful opportunity for Rotarians and the public to hear from this class completing their studies.

The seminar’s name has been changed from The Paul Harris Seminar to The Rotary World Peace Fellows’ Seminar.

The Rotary Foundation’s site visit of the Rotary Centre at the University of Queensland was recently undertaken by Past RI Director Noraseth Pathmanand, of Thailand. All Fellows from both classes contributed to his assessment. The nine Class VII Fellows are from Slovakia, USA, Iceland, Sierra Leone, Scotland, Kenya and the Philippines.
