While he has devoted his life to promoting peace and conflict resolution, he describes his home region as  a troubled state. Throughout his personal and professional life, Borkotoki has witnessed firsthand the polarization created by struggles between civil society and the government as well as insurgent groups and the army. He started his career as a journalist, chronicling what he observed during conflict, and later moved into a civil service position as a way to become actively involved in promoting peace.<o:p></o:p></span></p> <p style='line-height:15.0pt'><span style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family: "Verdana","sans-serif";color:#555555'>While in this role, Borkotoki applied for a Rotary Peace Fellowship at Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok, Thailand. In October 2009, he was assigned to attend the January 2010 session.
