The following is
from a recent Bulletin of the
Rotary Club of Surfers
Paradise Central:
Our
guest speaker, Magistrate Ron Kilner, is a board member of the Gold
Coast project for Homeless Youth.
Ron very succinctly informed us of the sadness behind the statistics.
How the services turn away four children
every day. How the service links with schools. How to work more
effectively with State Government. The
problems associated with the media, and some possible solutions. The room
was silent and attentive whilst
Ron was speaking. This subject has touched a chord within our club for a
number of reasons. Bannister House
was driven by our own Ken Bannister, and this is one of the few places
left where this problem is being addressed.
Many of our members see the positive effect of working more effectively
with today’s youth. We are looking
forward to creating new, long term initiatives for our club to be
passionate about. Therefore, by supporting this vision,
we are supporting the Rotary ideals. |
