The Rotary Club of Parkwood
International Service Report 2005/06 The key focus this year was to support the Rotary International District 9640 Youth Exchange Program. Sandra Granberg arrived from Sweden in July 2005 and after staying with a number of families within the club returned to her family in Sweden in June 2006. All the families had a very positive and supportive impact on Sandra while she was here and as such and on behalf of the club I would like to thank the Twyford Family, the Rolle Family, the Grummitt Family, the Smith Family, the Kent Family and the Murdoch Family for opening up and sharing their homes. In addition to this Sandra participated in the GU Rotaract Club meetings when they were held and as a result supported them in some of their activities. Over time Sandra even become comfortable with the far more restrictive school life that at home while she attended AB Paterson College. A big thank you to Margaret Grummitt for organising the scholarship that they provided to our club for Sandra during her exchange. The GU Rotaract Club after a very trying year has ceased to operate however we remain in contact with some of the members and look forward to their continued support and engagement. It was difficult to recruit members on the campus even after the club members created many opportunities to promote the club and engage with the broader student community. Let us see what as a club we can do in the future to engage with the Griffith Uni Students. Group Study Exchange (GSE) this rotary year has been great for both the inbound and outbound team members and the club as a whole. After submitting a joint proposal, with the Rotary Club of Southport North, to District a number of club members and their families enjoyed hosting the GSE Team from West Virginia. Kate Braybrook represented our club as a member of the outbound team to West Virginia. We look forward to keeping in touch with Kate. Formally we conducted a few International Toasts during the year and they were to District 3640 in Korea, Club zone 9 and the Rotary Club of Elmer of New Jersey District 7640 and to the Rotary Club of Embu in Brazil District 4610. Our relationship with the Shanghai Rotary Club with PP Dragan Djordjevic continues with Dragan keeping us informed on the progress of the club. We also keep Dragan informed of our clubs activities through sending him our bulletin each week. Last but by no means least our clubs contribution to the Rotary Foundation. Brian Knowles continues to organise the “Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner” function which raised $900 which has been sent off to The Rotary Foundation.
