Bald and Beautiful Day 5 May:
Bald and Beautiful Day 5 May

Mark Kent addressed the meeting concerning arrangements for the 5th May.  Lots of jobs to be done and 5 May is fast approaching, only two weeks to go so please get into action so we can make this a success.   Anyone who has spare time please let Mark know so that they can be allocated jobs. The entertainment and pampering are coming along well and we even have John Burgess coming along for an hour to entertain.

Raffle items are needed. Please ask people or bring along raffle items for the day as well -  some ideas are flowers, candy, wine, meal vouchers,  movie tickets, herbal teas and  biscuits. We will need these items next week so they can be wrapped and parcelled.

Toast to another club:  Harry Grace proposed a toast to the smallest club and smallest city - Donna Texas  USA - and was surprised that his research enlightened him on such an amazing Rotarian within our midst, Brian Knowles.  He made the point that we all should have dossiers on ourselves so that new members can see just who is in our club. Some of Brian's achievements have been documented on our website over the years and these may be seen here.

Make-ups at meetings of other clubs: President John has asked that members report to him details of make-up attendances at meetings of other clubs so that these can be taken into account when calculating attendances.
Venues, etc for meetings of other clubs in District 9640 may be found here.

Board Meeting: President John reported on a brief Board meeting held before the dinner meeting. A combined meeting of the outgoing and incoming Board
members will be held next month on a date to be determined.

Guest Speaker:
Emma Howard was introduced by Ken Smith. She is a past exchange student who went to a little town near Bavaria in Germany. She spoke of the differences that she could remember about Germany, their taste in Music sense of  humour and driving on the other side of the road, food and their competitive nature with sport and schoolwork.  Her best achievement while away was becoming proficient in  the German language.
Since then  she has studied  at Griffith and Bond Universities for ten years to become a psychologist  and has now started her own practice in Southport called Equilibrium Health and they will soon have four psychologists working there.
Clinical Psychological Services offered at Equilibrium Health, Southport extend to patients presenting; individually, couples, children & families.
All areas of psychopathology can be treated at Equilibrium Health from mental health issues extending from Severe Psychosis right through to Mild Adjustment Disorder issues.
Services include, though are not limited to; group interventions, cross cultural, acculturation  &  ethnic issues, grief  & bereavement counselling, domestic violence, trauma & women’s issues,  child abuse counselling, separation and relationship difficulties, conflict management, stress & burn out therapy, life coaching and personal growth, psychological education.
Under Medicare compliance, the primary treatment modality employed at Equilibrium Health is CBT.  Full fee paying patients are treated utilising various psychological treatment modalities including (though not limited to); Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT), Interpersonal Psychotherapy
(IPT), Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) & Neurolinguistic Programming (NLP).

At the conclusion of her address Emma distributed the following brochure:
Brochure - Better Access to Mental Health Care
pdf

District Conference at Grafton: The conference took place from 16th to 18th April.  The club was represented by PRIT Brian Knowles AM, PDG Ken Smith and PP Margaret Grummitt. The local newspaper published a 3 page supplement to highlight many aspects of Rotary and the Conference - the pdf
summary found here gives an excellent outline of the conference program.
Enlarge it to 150% and read for a good understanding of what the Conference was all about. In addition there were Youth Exchange and Group Study Exchange presentations, as well as MUNA, RYLA, RYPEN, RYTS, YSF and Rotaract. A Convict and Settlers Theme banquet was held on the Saturday night and this engendered much interest, fun and fellowship.

Community Art Union: President John has reminded members of the need to sell the maximum number of tickets at $2 each of which the club retains $1. The first prize is a $20,000 shopping spree at Harvey Norman.
Show Boat at the Little Theatre: Margaret Grummitt reported on this forthcoming production and it was agreed that bookings for a group from the Club would be made for Saturday 8 May - Please confirm your booking with Charmaine and pay the $15 per person.
