ROMAC
(Rotary Oceana Medical Aid for Children) assists with the arrival, home
hospitality and medical arrangements for patients and families bought to
Australia for critical medical treatment. One of
their recent visitors was Zerrio.
Below is an update on his story. Attached
are photos taken before the op. (22nd Aug) and 2 days after (25th). The
surgery to remove the kidney and tumour was successful, however the doctors
now feel that Zerrio needs to have radiation treatment as well as ongoing
chemo to ensure the best outcome. Consequently
Zerrio will need to stay in Adelaide for at least another 8 weeks (6 weeks of
daily radiotherapy, which cannot start for another 2 weeks.) He
will continue weekly chemo at the same time as radiotherapy, then complete
the post operative course of chemo (6 months) after his return to Dili. As the
aunt Idalina is most anxious about her children left back in Dili. It has been proposed that she will go
back home for a short time to check on them, leaving Zerrio in Adelaide in
preparation for his next treatment.
Idalina
is hopeful of getting back to Dili as soon as possible. Our Ops. Director is
dealing with her flights. If you
would like to be involved with programs like this or offer any help and
support, please contact a member of our club. |
