Instructions for stall erection
READ THIS THROUGH BEFORE DOING ANYTHING.
By doing it right a group can put
many stalls together in two hours. But if you do it wrong and have to shift
things around it will take much longer.
Stalls are made from poly-tarp material over a steel frame. The largest pieces
are welded end frames approximately 3m square with inset tarps. Do NOT remove
the tarps from these frames under any circumstances.
Stalls are 3m or 6 m wide, or they may be combined into longer units by using
special open end frames. Check if you are using any open end frames and ensure
that they are used at the right points. You may need a sketch of where stalls
are to go, showing sizes if there is a mixture.
The projecting pieces of the end frames are to support a verandah for the comfort
of your customers, and therefore go at the top front. Cross bars are used to
link the end frames at roof level and on the ground. There is also a diagonal
brace at the back of each stall. Once the steel is put together, tarps can be
tied at the rear and at the top.
All pieces are colour coded. See the diagram below
To build a stall (or a row of stalls ) start with two end frames held upright
by a man on each. Insert two top bars, and two bottom bars. At the back of the
end frame, at the bottom, there are two sockets next to each other. One of the
bottom bars goes into the bottom sockets. Insert the back bottom bar by positioning
pegs of the bar horizontally and next to sockets and "tipping" pegs
in at both ends simultaneously. The other bottom bar is fitted at the front
of the stall. Square the stall by measuring diagonals on the ground. Insert
the brace using the tip technique. Do not use force - check the squareness of
the stall if the brace seems not to fit. Insert third top bar to form the verandah.
For 6m stalls insert extra roof support between top bars.
If you are putting up a row of stalls, check that this first stall is pointing
the right way. Now build the next stall. You will usually attach it to the one
you have put up already, and therefore use only one more end frame. Repeat as
required. Keep an eye on the direction of the row.
Tie on tarps. Use boy scout knots. Note that with adjacent stalls, you may have
large tarps to go over two stalls. Set it out carefully.
Check that there are no water mains in the way before the next bit. If on lawn,
drive tent pegs (supplied) into the ground to fit over bottom cross bars close
to the end frames. Four pegs per stall. Drive star droppers at opposite corners
and wire to uprights. These are put there in case of wind, but if it really
blows you should remove the roof tarp. If you are not on lawn, use sand bags
or 20 litre water drums or similar (not supplied) to anchor stalls. Do not leave
stalls unattended once erected.
To dismantle stalls, UNTIE the top and back tarps and fold them up. DO NOT REMOVE
TARPS FROM END FRAMES. Remove tent pegs and star droppers. Remove cross bars.
Put everything in your truck. Check that you have it all and come to our place.
