President Bob's Plans for 2003/2004

During last Friday's Changeover Dinner the incoming President, Bob Northcote thanked the outgoing President, Tony Lagozzino and his management team. Bob congratulated them on their achievements and said that he will continue to build on their successes, including Carnevale, Ipoh Friendship Exchange and the New Shed.

The Club will also focus on the new Rotary International theme, "Lend a Hand" which is based on the following four objectives: fellowship to all the family of Rotary, poverty alleviation, disease reduction and education of the illiterate. The last three will be a challenge in our affluent society. The Board and Committees will be considering many activities, including projects in the areas of: Centenary Projects, International Projects, Donations in Kind, New Generations, Vocations and Membership Retention. We will also be developing our first "Outback Experience" which will occur in July 2003. The second-hand goods shed will be allocated the appropriate level of increased support to maximise its value. The new income from these sources will enhance our capacity to support a wider range of Rotary community support activities.

An innovation for the coming year will be to form a "Family of Rotary" committee to find more ways to create and nurture the atmosphere of warmth and caring. The Rotary family includes spouses and families of deceased Rotarians, and adult children of Rotarians.

The Last Lag along with Lago (From the President)

"The true reward of a thing well done is to have done it."

Best wishes to incoming President Bob and Rotarian Margaret &endash; the Club is in good hands.

A special thanks to the many Rotarians, partners and friends who worked so hard to make 2002/2003 such a great success. I have been inspired by the many Rotarians with a commitment to the Rotary ideal of "service above self".

2002/2003-2003/2004 Changeover Dinner

President Tony welcomed Rotarians, their partners and guests to the Changeover. He spoke about the highlights and successes of the past year and he especially recognised the success of the Club's theme "Embrace Multiculturalism in Rotary". Members of the Club then placed twenty culturally significant flags in a special stand in front of the lectern. These were later presented to President Tony as a memento of his Presidential year.

Tony acknowledged the special achievements of each Director and each major project. He also acknowledged the valuable contributions made through many less dramatic but important roles such as organising the weekly raffle and posting birthday card to the partners of Club members. Mementos of their achievements were presented to Board members, members who achieved a perfect 100% attendance record and other special achievers. Tony also thanked his wife, Carla, for her exceptional and continual support throughout the year.

The support of the Campbelltown Council, and especially Mayor Steve Woodcock, a honorary member of our Club, was acknowledged. Without the co-operation, understanding and active support of the Council, the New Shed would not have been built.

Major 2002/2003 innovations included the visits and Club Friendship Agreement with Ipoh, in Malaysia, the adoption of Carnevale as a major fundraising activity, the $16,100 Polio Plus Dinner and Auction and the construction of the New Shed. The Club joined the new electronic era with the use of the Internet for public relations activities and the development of our Internet site. The completion of the rebuilding of the Residents' Garden at the North Eastern Community Hospital marked a special achievement. Other successes included the induction of three new members, including one new honorary member, the many fellowship and fundraising events and the presentation of Community Service Awards and Vocational Awards. Many members and partners also attended the Rotary International Convention in Brisbane.

Other speakers included District Governor, Arthur Robinson and Campbelltown Mayor, Steve Woodcock.

"Our lag along with Lago" Presentation
Our webmaster presented a computer based pictorial review which celebrated the many Club activities during the year. These included our members in Malaysia, the visitors from Ipoh, the Christmas parties, people working on the New Shed and delegates at the RI Convention.

Induction of the Incoming President
Outgoing President Tony then inducted Bob Northcote as the President for 2003/2004. Following presentations to the outgoing President, Secretary and Treasurer, Bob then introduced the incoming Directors and Officers of the Club for 2003/2004. (A summary of President Bob's plans is on page 1 of this Newsletter.)

The evening concluded with thanks from the incoming President. President Bob's thought for the week "A wise man will make more opportunities than he finds
