PDG Peter Sandercock, Chair, National Insurance Committee,
has provided the following information on Rotary Insurance:
- A job description for the DIO [district insurance
officer]
- A form that would allow the recording of District/Club
assets
- A document that would provide a 'checklist' for
risks associated with the various District/Club
activities and
- A broad summary of Rotary's recent claims history
in Australia.
The two 'checklist's' included should be used together
to gain maximum benefit.
The Risk Analysis Checklist was previously designed
by the National Insurance Committee and the
Risk Management
Checklist has just been provided by our liability
insurer, QBE..

The DIO position description will help those currently
acting in that role as well as providing interested Rotarians
who may wish to fill the position in the future. With
the increasing need to monitor activities within Districts,
the person occupying the position of DIO should not have
any other tasks added to their duties.
The claims history data indicates the payments made
from 21 claims chosen at random. An underwriter looking
at the loss history would know instinctively that there
ia a real possibility there are more major claims to
come, it is just a matter of when. All the more reason
why we need to be vigilant and adopt a more professional
management approach to our activities.
