SEEDLING MAINTENANCE

Please refer to the 'Annual Planner' for a month by month description of maintenance tasks. Once the seedlings are thinned to one per tube, your main tasks are to check watering is adequate to the weather conditions (longer in hot weather and as the plants grow-on, using more water, less in cool weather), adding fertilisers once or twice over the period and removing weeds that compete for light and nutrients.

THE FINISHED PRODUCT

The plants are ready for planting when they are:-

a height of one to one-and-a-half times the height of the tube.
standing up by themselves and have a good strong stem
equipped with a good healthy root system.
disease-free.

Most seedlings should be ready 6 to 9 months after planting, depending on the species and the season..

seedlings are not sufficiently grown to be ready to plant

Your planting group cannot accept plants that are:

not labelled
not thinned to one plant per tube
full of weeds!

If you notice that the plants have matured as shown, please notify the group you are growing for, so that arrangements can be made for the planting.

healthy, and ready to plant
