These lessons have been developed to assist teachers in using the Trees for Survival shadehouse as part of their classroom program. A key to the success of Trees for Survival in schools is the integration of the shadehouse and planting activities into teaching programs. This ensures the students learn the background knowledge and skills about the activities and broader implications of their actions. It helps enrich classroom learning and integrate Environmental Education across Key Learning Areas. It also encourages students to liaise outside school with groups involved in the activities. |

The lessons are organised in stages and
the student learning outcomes listed for each stage are stated at the
beginning of each stage.
The main Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) are from the Science and Technology Human Society and Its Environment and English syllabus However; units cover a number of other key learning areas and ideally the units are suited to a thematic approach across all curriculum areas.
