• a high pressure hose-out of the shadehouse before using each year to remove weed seeds and bugs makes the maintenance of the shadehouse and the plants inside over the course of the year much simpler.

• laminate and display Black Line Masters (from the Teachers' Kit) or instructions (from the manual) permanently in the shadehouse

• Internet - post your results and questions on this site and use as a communication point between schools - see the message board in this site.

divide the tasks for seed-sowing and make a production line, have the students devise their own procedure

• dramatise the functions of a tree (roots, heartwood, phylem, phloem, bark, branches, leaves) and make the learning FUN!

• worm juice and vermicaste make fabulous fertiliser if diluted with water at about 1:10.

use gravel on the floor, it improves drainage and helps reduce weeds and disease

• plant a few of each year's crop around the school grounds and take photos for the school newlsetter

• look for strategic plantings around the school - windbreaks, gardens, shade as well as the link group's needs

• put the shadehouse in a well observed area to deter vandals' activities

• link program into Duke of Edinburgh Medal and landcare awards

• read the instructions in the manual - they're very easy to follow

• promote your work through landcare and other journals, like your local council's Bushcare Newsletter

• use the buddy system in seed sowing and other tasks that might be a bit of a challenge for younger children

• seek publicity ; photos, media releases, copies to sponsors (invite your Rotary Club to your seedsowing or planting event)

• start off seed sowing as an inclusive activity, perhaps involving a number of classes or grades, then on-going maintenance with a small group like a garden or 'green' club (include parents in a working bee)
• establish a set of awards (most improved, best weeded, first thinned to one seedling per tube, etc) and rotate these awards around the groups / classes that are involved with the shadehouse. Announce the awards at school assembly
