| This resource has been written to assist teachers in the integration process. It should be used in conjunction with the 'Trees for Survival Instruction Manual which provides practical information for all aspects of the growing activities. References are regularly made in the text to the Manual, extracts from which are found under 'instruction manual' | |||||||||||

The section 'Contact People and Organisations refers predominantly to NSW-based groups due to the location of the Trees for Survival office. Other States represented are Queensland, Victoria and the A.C.T. You can add your own website links from the Message Board in the "Managing An Existing Shadehouse section The resource provides an outline of several lessons relevant to students in Years 7 to 10. The lessons are divided into Key Learning Area groups as follows: |

It should be noted that many of the lessons and activities are relevant to other KLAs. - see 'Cross-curricula examples'. Teachers could integrate the lessons in several ways into existing or new teaching programs (see 'Integrations Hints'). Each lesson provides an outline of teaching learning activities and suggested duration of the lesson, teacher notes and resources required. Some lessons have Black Line Masters - BLM to accompany them. The lessons encourage outdoor experiential learning by students centred around the Trees for Survival shade-house and planting activities. They are also easily locked into existing classroom learning relating to many KLA programs. Furthermore, students are involved in working and learning with other groups (e.g. environment organisations, government agencies that are involved especially in revegetation operations). There is a corresponding set of lessons for K - 6 on this site. Some of the activities in that folder will be appropriate for some secondary students. |
