ABSTRACT.

Cary Pedicini will be presenting on trends in volunteering in Australia, in particular corporate volunteering and its impact on the Rotary movement. This new trend in volunteering is largely driven by the corporate sector, within a broader context of the emergence of corporate social responsibility values. It has been on the rise for some years now and looks to continue.

What can corporate volunteering tell us about larger trends in volunteering? Cary will explore the way that not-for-profits have responded to the challenge of working more closely with companies, and consider how it might inform an understanding of engaging a younger generation of volunteers. Does corporate volunteering represent a diversion of volunteer effort away from service club involvement, or are there opportunities to be found? Corporate volunteering, for example, can be a great catalyst for more community engagement.

Cary will also look at the current landscape of corporate volunteering, such as the trend towards finding roles which utilise the skills of employees, the preference for nurturing longer term relationships with a few select not-for-profit partners, and innovation in corporate volunteering such as retiree programs and seconded placements.

Finally, Cary will explore the types of strategic partnerships which Rotary could be making to capitalize on these changes.
