WATERING
Once
or twice a day and more often in very hot weather, water the trays
or tubes with the shadehouse sprays. Always keep the mix moist to
avoid go-stop-go germination caused by drying out. If the mix dries
out after seed begins to sprout, many seedlings will die.
However,
it is critical that you avoid over-watering and long periods of
sodden mix, as this promotes fungal growth which could lead to heavy
plant losses.
Check
trays and tubes regularly for germination, and be prepared to take
quick action at the first sign of disease or attack by pests such
as slugs.
To
check whether the water is penetrating to the bottom of the tube it is
suggested that some tubes be filled with mix without seed, and these can
be upturned to ascertain if water is reaching the bottom of the tube.
